Polywrap Recycling has teamed up with the Wrap Recycling Action Program (WRAP) to support communities that want to implement recycling programs for #2 and #4 (polyethylene) plastic film materials including carryout bags, film packaging, and bubble wrap.
Polywrap Recycling’s RACK’n PakTM Recycling Bagging System makes it easy for communities, universities and small businesses to collect film material. For example, the Town of Branford, CT has achieved success providing residents with plastic film recycling. Solid Waste Supervisor, Daniel McGowan was instrumental in implementing the program at the local transfer station by participating with WRAP and using the Polywrap RACK’n PakTM System with educational signage.
McGowan shares, “The driving force behind starting this program was and still is resident demand. Due to inability for residents to recycle plastic film curbside, we received consistent inquiries asking how and where plastic bags could be recycled. In an effort to answer these questions I started looking for a recycling solution. At first, it was difficult to find an easy to implement answer. Then I found Polywrap Recycling.”
He continues, “We started our trial utilizing RACK’n PakTM in mid-September. At the middle of November we already have filled 6 bags with recyclable materials.” Each full bag can hold between 35 and 45 pounds of material, which is then sent the local recycling facility to be baled with other clean, dry film material.
With a small footprint, the base measuring only 26” and height of 4’4”, the RACK’n PakTM System allows for collection point placement not only at transfer stations, but at government buildings including schools, libraries, city/town halls, post offices, and more. Consolidating material in large Polywrap VENT PRESSTM Bags makes it easier for haulers and recycling facilities to handle the material efficiently. Amazingly, each VENT PRESSTM Bag can hold as much material as a 4’x4’ gaylord box. Once the bags are filled, they’re collected, compacted, and sent to the plastic recycling center.
